Veterinary Physiotherapy is a non-invasive approach to treating a range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions to include pre- and post-surgical conditions, performance enhancement and senior patient support. I regularly work in conjunction with other Veterinary Professionals to ensure the most effective treatment is being given. The tailor-made treatment plans take into account your pet’s specific needs with the aim of providing a long and pain-free life. My aims are to reduce pain, re-educate gait, accelerate healing, restore mobility, performance enhancement and return patients to their optimal function.
Veterinary physiotherapy is mainly used within dogs and horses, however I regularly treat cats and other animals too. For more information on how our services can benefit your animal, please follow the links below.

A consultation includes the following:
Case History
A thorough history of your animal will be taken to compliment the clinical history given to me by your Veterinary Surgeon.
This will involve discussion about the current condition as well as any previous conditions, home environment, exercise levels and nutrition.
This allows me to fully understand which exercises will suit the patient.
Gait Analysis
A full assessment of how your animal moves will be carried out to include a static and dynamic assessment.
You will be required to handle your animal so that their gait can be assessed.
Ridden or lunge work may be required for horses.
Palpation
Following the gait analysis, tissues and range of motion of joints will be assessed.
This allows identification of areas of pain, inflammation, altered muscle state, altered range of motion and imbalances.
Treatment
Once findings have been collected and issues identified, treatment aims will be created and subsequent treatment will be carried out.
Depending on the requirements of your animal a range of modalities will be used.
Treatment may differ between sessions depending on your animal's needs.
Exercise Prescription
A tailored home exercise plan will be created for your animal. Each exercise will be demonstrated and practiced with you prior to me leaving.
During the session, manual therapies such as massage and stretching can be applied if tolerated and appropriate. Massage helps to relieve areas or tension or soreness as well as stimulating soft tissues to help encourage blood flow and effective waste removal. Joint mobilisations and stretches will also be applied as appropriate to increase flexibility and suppleness.
I utilise a variety of electrotherapies to improve muscle tone, enhance healing, reduce pain and increase flexibility and suppleness. Electrotherapies can be useful in treating areas of muscle tightness, joint pain and encouraging repair following tendon injuries. Thermotherapies include heat and cold therapy to reduce inflammation or increase blood flow and soft tissue suppleness.
Remedial exercises involve functional exercises used within the session to build strength, enhance limb awareness and improve flexibility. Some of these exercises can be demonstrated to you so they can be used between physiotherapy sessions.
As well as treating your animal, their environment will also be discussed to ensure the best possible recovery post injury or whilst managing a chronic condition. During treatment an exercise plan is created which is tailored to your animal's specific requirements. These will be demonstrated to ensure you fully understand the exercise. Completing the plan between your Veterinary Physiotherapy sessions enables us to achieve the best results.

I may also request to view your horse's environment to determine if any alterations can be made. Home management advice will be given and if required a further in-person consultation and treatment will be booked.
A full assessment will be carried out on your horse to identify areas that can be treated and worked on. There may also be a requirement for a ridden assessment. These findings will form the basis of the treatment during the session and also the proposed treatment plan.
